The Magic Trick

Nora, though she will not take a bottle, is increasingly interested in all things related to the consumption of liquids by me or Basil. She'll stare intently at any glass from which we sip, gazes in awe at the water pitcher being filled (especially as that involves the running of water from the mysterious faucet) and is generally enthralled by the contents of any cup.

Yesterday, thinking she was about to experience an action she knew and loved, she watched as I filled my water glass. I'm sure her thoughts translated to "Oh, my mother's glass is empty. She enjoys drinking from that glass. I know 'drinking' means swallowing liquid that is dispensed from a container similar to that reduced-reused-recycled POM glass. And I know what all of those words mean, too. Here she is! My mother is about to refill her empty glass. I love these moments."

But what she did NOT know was that I wasn't returning with the water pitcher, but with a bottle of carbonated limeade. I filled the glass and Nora flipped out. Rather, she FLIPPED ALL THE WAY OUT!!!!! Water from a pitcher is pretty cool, but fizzy drink from a curvy bottle? Fireworks! Magical fireworks! She let out the sharpest, gladest intake of breath and flapped her arms and legs like crazy. Next up: opening a can of root beer with an encore of opening a shaken can of root beer.

In other news, on Friday I made my first purchase of an item just because Nora loved it so very much (i.e., her response to it was similar to that of the magical limeade). Granted, I introduced it to her the previous Friday, showed it to her again this past Friday and then ended up buying it five hours after the second showing at a different store, but I still got it because I knew it would please her. What was it?

Oh, bee, I love you.

In addition to its absolute cuteness, the little stripey guy also makes an appealing jingley-tinkley sound when gently shaken.

Oh, bee, you're the greatest!

How great, Nora, how great is The Bee?

Oh, bee, mwah nom nom mwah mwah mwah nom nom nom nom!

Our house is full of all kinds of fireworks. Full to its roof-of-a-brim.

Oh, that photo with the big, happy mouth open, smile really kind of takes my breath away. She is such a beautiful baby. Awwww.... I LOVE the Bee too! How cute is that?

And I'm guessing you've already had your obligatory post-natal visit from The Safety Cowboy?
