The Magic Trick

Nora, though she will not take a bottle, is increasingly interested in all things related to the consumption of liquids by me or Basil. She'll stare intently at any glass from which we sip, gazes in awe at the water pitcher being filled (especially as that involves the running of water from the mysterious faucet) and is generally enthralled by the contents of any cup.

Yesterday, thinking she was about to experience an action she knew and loved, she watched as I filled my water glass. I'm sure her thoughts translated to "Oh, my mother's glass is empty. She enjoys drinking from that glass. I know 'drinking' means swallowing liquid that is dispensed from a container similar to that reduced-reused-recycled POM glass. And I know what all of those words mean, too. Here she is! My mother is about to refill her empty glass. I love these moments."

But what she did NOT know was that I wasn't returning with the water pitcher, but with a bottle of carbonated limeade. I filled the glass and Nora flipped out. Rather, she FLIPPED ALL THE WAY OUT!!!!! Water from a pitcher is pretty cool, but fizzy drink from a curvy bottle? Fireworks! Magical fireworks! She let out the sharpest, gladest intake of breath and flapped her arms and legs like crazy. Next up: opening a can of root beer with an encore of opening a shaken can of root beer.

In other news, on Friday I made my first purchase of an item just because Nora loved it so very much (i.e., her response to it was similar to that of the magical limeade). Granted, I introduced it to her the previous Friday, showed it to her again this past Friday and then ended up buying it five hours after the second showing at a different store, but I still got it because I knew it would please her. What was it?

Oh, bee, I love you.

In addition to its absolute cuteness, the little stripey guy also makes an appealing jingley-tinkley sound when gently shaken.

Oh, bee, you're the greatest!

How great, Nora, how great is The Bee?

Oh, bee, mwah nom nom mwah mwah mwah nom nom nom nom!

Our house is full of all kinds of fireworks. Full to its roof-of-a-brim.

Four Months: You asked for more photos

And we are nothing if not slaves to the demands of Nora's adoring public. And also, you know, her parents.
Wow, I guess this doesn't bode well for the whole "stage mother" thing. We can work on that. In the meantime...

The New Kid: Still Pretty New

A brand new album, mostly in chronological order from 1.5 months to the present (4 months). Please forgive the variances in quality, some of these were taken with our regular camera and some with our camera phones. The general cuteness comes shining through, regardless.

And don't forget, for even more photos, shots from the paternal grandfolks' visit can be found here as well as here.

We've got a few short videos to upload to our YouTube page one of these days, but those'll come later.

For now, enjoy the adorable!

And in this corner...

Baby Girl Jorgensen, weighing in at 14lbs, 13oz with a length of 26.5 inches!

Today was Nora's 4-month well baby visit, shots and all. Results: she's doing a bang up job of being a human. At least, we think so. Here's what she thinks of her lot as a tot:

In Session

Nora, Duchess of Bib-on-Head sits ready in judgment. Fair to those deserving, kind to those in need, true to her heart: her wisdom knows no boundaries. Duchess, are you prepared to receive your first penitent?

Ready as one ever can be, we see, to weigh the troubles of the lesser fortunate. Duchess, please consider this man:

What say you, your bib-liness?

Duchess, your confusion is most understandable, but you must overcome your hesitation and mete out appropriate punishment, you must, though the troubled man be YOUR OWN TRUE FATHER!

Perhaps a brief recess would be wise.

Family Parade!

Making the long (and way-too-quick!) trip from the East Coast, the paternal grandfolks finally got a chance to meet their first granddaughter. I must admit to getting just a little misty at the sight of seeing my own parents hold our baby girl.
Something about parents of parents, looping back two generations, the circle of life, the wheel of fortune, hope for the future, the golden age of television, etc.

Anyway, my dad made good on his promise to become a bad influence:

Nora totally copied my mom's headwear fashion (or vice versa, it's unclear at this time):

And in the end, as grandparents do, they tried to steal the kid and pretend nothing happened. And who'd blame them?

The photos are courtesy of mom's camera and there are more cute shots of the visit here and here
Thanks, shutterbug!
